Hard Work Improves Talent

Chances are when you turn on your t.v. at night you will see famous athletes, celebrities and successful entrepreneur talking about or preforming at what they do best. Too many people believe that these successful people that you hear so much about are simply more gifted than the average being. The news anchor will tell you how talented these people are but they leave out how hard they have worked to get to where they are today. No one sees the long hours athletes spend in the gym practicing their craft or the sleepless nights a successful business person spent working towards success. Yes, there is a handful of lucky people who had an advantage from the beginning but most successful people have dedicated their lives to improving theirselves.

Hard work is the secret to success. No matter how gifted a person is they must work hard at what they do to  make it big. Talent aside, here is a list of things that are a must if one truly wants to be the one millions see when they turn on their t.v. after a long day.

  1. Be punctual always.
  2. Put in the effort and work hard. Always look for ways to do a little extra each day.
  3. Go through each day and whatever it throws at you with a positive attitude.
  4. Go for what you are passionate about. Nothing great has every been achieved by someone who is not passionate about their craft.
  5. Be willing to learn. No matter how much you know there is always something someone knows that can help you. Be coachable.
  6. Always be prepared. Set your goals, make a plan and prepare for everything you can foresee happening. When faced with a problem you must take time to plan a solution before you hope into action.
These habits take no talent. They are things everyone can do to improve themselves and their lifestyle. There should be no excuses to why one cannot add these habits to their daily lives. The outcome will worth the sacrifice.

Five Reasons You Should Need To Exercise

Everyone knows exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. From looking better to feeling more energized here is five reasons why you should make time in your busy life to get more physically active.

1. Manage Weight

Exercise is an excellent way to prevent weight gain and important for maintaining a healthy weight. You gain weight when the calories you intake from food and drinks is more than the amount of calories you burn during the day. As you exercise you burn calories as you get your heart rate up. The higher the intensity the more calories burned. Remember, to lose weight and keep it off you must also eat healthy as well.

2. Improves Mental Health

Studies have shown that taking part in physical activities three to five times a week for about an hour can have many benefits to mental health including lowering your risk of depression and even helping you sleep better at night. Exercise is a great way to help improve your mood!

3. Better Chance at a Longer Life

It has been proven that regular exercise increases the odds of a longer life. By taking part in at three to seven hours of exercise a week you can drastically lower your risk of an early death.

4. Keeps Heart Strong and Prevents Many Diseases

Regular exercise will decrease your risk of heart disease and stroke. It can even lower blood pressure and help to improve cholesterol levels. Exercise can also help you prevent Type 2 Diabetes. For many people who already have Type 2 Diabetes, physical activity is a great way to help manage the disease. Exercise even helps to prevent breast cancer in women and colon cancer in both men and women.

5. Makes You Stronger

Most people know exercise helps build muscle but it can also help slow the loss of bone density as you grow older. It is a great way to protect and maintain healthy bones, joints and muscles.

Mental Health Awareness

Imagine going through your daily life unable to see a solution to any of your problems. You cannot find joy in anything you do as you find it impossible to smile. You feel alone, isolated in negativity and unsure where to turn.

In Canada about 20% of people live their lives feeling this way because they fear people will not understand and not take them seriously. Almost half (49%) of people suffering from depression or anxiety have never received help because of this.

May 2 marks the beginning of the Canadian Mental Health Association's Mental Health Week. The goal is to "Get Loud" for mental health and raise awareness to end the stigma. CMHA's National CEO Dr. Patrick Smith believes getting loud means breaking the silence around mental health issues.

Breaking the silence is exactly what the company Bruce Power did yesterday as they started their campaign in support of mental health. To help spread awareness, Bruce Power will donate $1 every time the hashtag #BreaktheSilence is posted and shared. Their goal is to raise $80 000 this week! Along with Bruce Power, Bell Canada has been very active in the fight against mental health. The company has contributed over $100 million to varies foundations since 2011. Bell has raised much awareness with the hashtag #BellLetsTalk on social medias across Canada!

For Mental Health week I would like to provide you with a few facts and statistics about the stigma in Canada.

  1. Mental illness can be treated!
  2. Only 1 out of every 5 children who need mental health services get help.
  3. Next to only accidents, suicide is one of the leading cause of death for young men and women between the ages of 15 and 24 in Canada.
  4. About 4000 people die each year by suicide.
  5. It is so much more than just feeling "sad".

Those battling mental illnesses must know they are not alone in the fight. Mental illness has impacted each and every one of us in some way. Whether is a family member, a co-worker or a friend, telling them to just smile and be happy will not help. Those struggling are looking for someone to talk to and support. They are looking for someone who will listen to them and most importantly a friend to help them through this difficult time.
